Auto-lacing Sneakers Hit Kickstarter

It was only a matter of time before someone truly tackled the age-old task of creating those “Back to the Future” power-lacing shoes.

Nike announced it would be auctioning off 1,500 pairs of the shoes back in 2011. But while they were a visual replica of the shoes found in “Back to the Future II,” they didn’t have the super-cool power laces.

Soon, however, you might be able to actually buy auto-lacing shoes — well, almost. A new Kickstarter project that aims to bring you what the founders call "Powerlace Advanced Auto-Lacing Shoe Technology"

There’s no battery or motor as it's essentially a lever system — as you press your heel down on the lever, the cabling system pulls the laces tight to your foot.

When you’re ready to take off the shoe, you just pull or step on the lever on the back.

The system should be pretty durable: Powerlace says it designed the shoes to support up to 200,000 lacings.

Important note: The shoes are only available in Men’s sizes ranging from 8 - 12. The company says it plans to create Women’s sizes “in the near future.”
