A piece of aluminum, found in a Pacific beach, revived International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery hope of finding the aircraft of America's aviator Amelia Earhart , who disappeared into the ocean at July 2, 1937.

A piece of aluminum, detected by sonar in Nikumaroro atoll (Kiribati islands), is part of "Miami's" fuselage, the Lockheed Model 10 Electra manned by Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan.

Confirmation that this piece was part of the "Miami" contradicts the widespread idea that the aircraft crashed in the Pacific Ocean, and gives strength to the theory that Amelia Earhart may have been living on a desert island until her death.

Amelia Earhart, age of 39, the first woman crossing the Atlantic on an airplane, and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared near the equator while trying to complete a flight round the world.

The disappearance of the most famous female aviator of all time is today one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.
